Assistant Librarian
The Assistant Librarian is responsible to assist the Librarian in overseeing the work of the library and any student assistants responsible for the daily running of the library. This is a part-time position.
Supervision Received: Librarian
Supervision Exercised: Student Assistants
Responsibilities
Assist with maintenance, acquisitions, withdrawals of resources, and day-to-day operation of the library
Assist with purchasing all books and materials which will be added to the library collection, in consultation with the librarian and in accordance with the budget
Catalog all materials with the computer, using the appropriate software
Assist in the Maintenance of financial and other records for the library
Provide input for the long-term plans for the growth and development of the library
Help train and supervise student assistants
Teach students to use the library’s resources for academic research
Assist in leading a session of library orientation as part of the general orientation for students at the beginning of each academic year
Other Duties
Make sure that books are reshelved properly
Identify if students have returned books in a timely manner
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with library operations
Knowledge on current computer resources
Qualifications
University graduate, Training in Library Science preferred, but not necessary
Experience with library operations, cataloging, and other needs of a smaller library
