Upon the recommendation of Tyndale Theological Seminary’s faculty senate and president’s cabinet, by a decision of the board of directors, resident faculty member Dr. Mario Tafferner was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Tyndale Theological Seminary, the wider academy, and the church of Christ.
The news of the promotion was shared with the Tyndale community and friends during a Thursday chapel service. We are proud to have colleagues who serve our students through their growing expertise and deep commitment to God's mission, both locally and globally.
Dr. Tafferner teaches courses in biblical Hebrew, biblical backgrounds, Old Testament theology, Old Testament exegesis, and research and writing. Currently, he serves as Thesis Director for the Master of Evangelical Theology program. In this role he supervises and guides students through the process of researching and writing their theses, coordinates with faculty thesis readers, and organizes thesis defenses.
Dr. Tafferner received his PhD from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, USA. He frequently presents papers at various academic conferences. His publications include studies on the Old Testament historical books, ancient near eastern inscriptions, and bioethics. He is currently writing a commentary on 1 and 2 Kings.
Dr. Tafferner is originally from the area of Giessen, Germany. He is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in America and serves as an elder at the Reformed Church in Broek Op Langedijk, the Netherlands. He and his wife Elsbeth have four children—Natalie, Jakob, Josua, and Marlene.
Congratulations, Mario!
