Tyndale Theological Seminary Launches the Tyndale Academy of Ancient Languages (TAAL)
Netherlands-based institute opens with 100 students from dozens of nations, offering intensive training in Koine Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS — Tyndale Theological Seminary today announced the public launch of the Tyndale Academy of Ancient Languages (TAAL), a Netherlands-based institute dedicated to teaching the biblical languages and the pedagogy of language learning. TAAL opens on August 31, following a successful six-month pilot phase, with an inaugural student body of roughly 100 learners from several dozen nations.
TAAL offers instruction in Koine Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, and related ancient languages, through both online and in-person short intensive courses. Alongside language instruction, the Academy offers dedicated coursework in the pedagogy of language learning, training experienced teachers and Bible translators to pass these skills on to others.
Serving Pastors, Bible Readers, Teachers, and Translators
TAAL's inaugural cohort reflects the breadth of its mission. Many students are pastors seeking to strengthen their Greek exegesis, and everyday Christians who want to read Scripture in its original languages rather than through translation. Alongside them, TAAL's pedagogy courses serve experienced Biblical languages teachers and Bible translators working in the field, equipping them to teach these languages more effectively in their own contexts.
"TAAL Academy is meeting the need for training Bible readers who engage with Scripture directly, without relying on a translation," said Nelleke Yakubu, Director of TAAL. "It reveals the precise meaning of individual words, uncovers wordplay that's easy to miss in English, and surfaces the ancient cultural background that many other resources overlook."
Three One-Year Certificate Programs
At the core of TAAL's curriculum are three one-year certificate programs, each taking students from beginner-level instruction through to the ability to teach the language to others:
Certificate in Koine Greek
Certificate in Biblical Hebrew
Certificate in Biblical Languages
Each track combines grammar, vocabulary, and translation practice with advanced readings and a pedagogy component, preparing graduates to teach confidently in academic, ministry, or field translation settings.
A Proven Foundation
TAAL's public launch follows a six-month trial period that tested its courses, instructors, and format ahead of full enrollment.
