Our journey to Rome was amazing. It held particular significance as individuals from diverse backgrounds, who had previously endured persecution for their faith in Rome, came back to the city where "All roads lead," creating a full circle moment.
During our four days of stay, we enjoyed wonderful sunny weather, a pleasant contrast to the usual climate in the Netherlands. Additionally, our hosts were incredibly hospitable, providing us with warm welcomes and delightful meals. The local cuisine and interactions with residents gave us a taste of home away from home, fostering a sense of belonging. It was also a time for us seminary students to bond, learn about each other, and explore the wonders of Rome together.
While visiting historical sites like the Colosseum and Pantheon, we were constantly reminded of God's sovereignty and the enduring Christian presence in the city. The awe-inspiring beauty of religious landmarks like St. Peter's Basilica and Arcibasilica di San Giovanni left us in admiration of the craftsmanship and devotion to glorifying God. Despite the rich Catholic heritage, our conversations with locals revealed a disconnect from biblical faith, leaving us with mixed feelings.
Overall, the trip was a success, allowing us to unwind and prepare for the semester ahead while also highlighting the need for Christ's presence in Italy.
