The Brotzman Lectures - Peter J. Gentry

Tyndale Theological Seminary, Badhoevedorp

This year’s theme is “Controversial Points in the Biblical Theology of Isaiah: Learning to Interpret with the Biblical Writers”

Dr. Gentry will explore this topic in three lectures:

  1. Did Matthew Cite/Use Isaiah 7:14 Correctly?

Double Fulfillment, Sensus Plenior, or Long-Distance Prediction: What kind of interpretation of the Old Testament is behind Matthew’s appeal to Isaiah 7:14?

  2. Challenging the Consensus on ‘almâ — Young Woman or Young Virgin?

Solving the exegetical and textual problems surrounding Isaiah 7:14 — Current scholarship denies that the word almâ means virgin. Was Matthew mistaken in his interpretation or misled by the Septuagint?

  3. How True Israel Evolves in the Plot Structure of Isaiah

The New Israel in Isaiah: A Challenge to Covenant and Dispensational Theology — Developing a biblical theology of the remnant in Isaiah.
